The Basics

Every student at Pink Elementary will receive 50 minutes of music instruction per week. Students will have the opportunity to experience music of various styles and cultures. We will listen, sing, move, and play instruments as we explore the world of music. All instruction is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and is a blended approach with elements of the Orff/Schulwerk philosophy and the teachings of Zoltan Kodaly. Children will also have the opportunity of discovery and self-exploration of musical elements in the music classroom.

Performances

Performance is an essential part of music. As the children work hard as members of a team to polish their performances they develop poise and a sense of pride that is evident across many areas of their lives. This year, grades 1, 3, and 5 will present evening programs. However, every child will have the opportunity to perform at some point during the school year.

Notable Music Students

Mrs. Wester expects her students to be model citizens in every area of their lives. In addition to classroom incentives, students have to opportunity to earn school-wide recognition as the Musician in the Spotlight for outstanding participation, behavior, and performance in music class. Also, each week at Friday morning assembly, one class will be recognized based on the following expectations..
